XC/Road/Run Time Trials

BAMBA Time Trials

The Boise Mountain Bike Association is sponsoring Time Trial Tuesday every Tuesday evening during the months of May and June.  These practice race events are free for members of the association and provide a great opportunity to ride with friends and train for the season.  Timing of the first events will start at 6:45 so get there a few minutes early to get signed in and ready.  All events start in the parking lot on the south side of the velodrome near the new BMX track.  BMX races will also be occurring these evenings so please park in the north lot.

We will be offering four different time trial events including mountain bike, 10.2 mile road bike, and 3.5 mile trail run.  You can participate in any one of the events or turn in into a duathlon by combining a bike time trial followed by the running event.  The timing clock will run for about 2 hours which will give enough time to participate in two of the events.

Participants will be recording their own times at these events.  We will have sign up sheets for each time trial and a map showing the respective courses.  We will also have a timing clock so that everyone can see and record their start and finish times.  After the event we will post the results on our website so participants can easily track their progress over the nine week period.

KNOW THE COURSES BEFORE YOU COME TO PARTICIPATE.

Courses are marked in red on the maps below.
The following are descriptions of the four different events:

Mountain Bike – (Cross Country)
This course includes the cyclocross race course and Twisted Sister making a 1.7 mile loop.  Riders can start whenever they are ready between the times of 6:45 and 7:30.  Choose a convenient time on the clock and write it down as your start time.  This time trial will consist of 3 laps giving a total of 5.1 miles.  Course is shown below in red:

Road Bike Time Trial
The course leaves the south parking lot and heads south on Old Horshoebend Road, follows hill road to Seamans Gulch, and then climbs to the top of the hill.  Once you reach the top, turn around and ride the exact same way back to the park and record your finish time.  This is a 10.2 mile event.  Riders can write down a start time and begin whenever ready.

Running Time Trial
This 3.87 mile course follows the paved trail heading south until you reach the corner of the park next to the fire station.  You then follow the fire road east until you reach Rabbit Run.  Go north on Rabbit Run until you hit Junkyard and do the Junkyard loop counterclockwise.  Then head down to the water tower road, through the gate, and follow the paved road until you wrap around the gravel parking lot on the west side of the velodrome back to the start point.  Here is the map – course shown in red:

A few basic things participants should know about:
1.  Our insurance policy as an IMBA chapter allows us to hold these training event for members.  If you are not a member then please join.  The cost is only $30 or $20 for youth.  Your support helps us advocate for and maintain the park for the public to enjoy.
2.  The insurance policy does not allow mass starts for mountain bikers – riders will start 15 seconds apart from each other.  This doesn’t apply for runners who can start in groups.
3.  The trails are not closed down to the public for these events.  Please be courteous to other trail users.  The competitive mountain bike course is on the short track course which will not have other users on it.  The sport class course is on twisted sister and the cyclocross course which are also lightly used.
4.  If someone behind you calls for a pass, let them by at the first convenient location.
5.  Don’t cheat when you record you own times – karma will get you in the end.
